Higgins and the Hospice
As a member of the local business community, Higgins Insurance Brokers has always been a socially responsible employer.
Following a visit by Claire Brown, the regional fundraiser for Northern Ireland Hospice Care, we have formally become a suppporter of the Northern Ireland Hospice.
Claire advised that "as a local charity caring for local people in Northern Ireland, the Hospice requires £6,500,000 to provide specialist palliative care for adults and children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses. Although we receive some government funding for the adult hospice services, we receive no funding for the Children's Hospice".
The Adult Hospice cares for 2500 patients and families annually and the Children's Hospice cares for over 300 famiiles. Claire advised that "there is no charge for hospice care and it is available to everyone on the basis of need."
Throughout the year we will be involved in various projects to raise much needed funds. Some of our staff have just completed the Belfast Marathon fun run and walk and shorlty we will be having a staff BBQ were the directors will be cooking, serving and doing the all washing up!!
To date we have raised £2000 and a cheque was presented to DJ Maurice Jay during his 105.8 hours challenge for the Hospice which he carried out in the window of Debenham's at Castlecourt
